And The Winner Is...
(Photo link: www.smh.com.au)
This evening, Dame Helen Mirren took home the Best Actress in a Drama Award at the Golden Globes. It is my opinion that Ms. Mirren is one of the most sensually beautiful women to ever grace the silver screen. , so I say:
All hail the queen!
Congratulations Helen Mirren, wherever you are--
I've got my fingers crossed for the Oscars!

Who is your favorite actress?
What film(s) would you recommend?
(Note: I will add my favorite Dame Helen Mirren movies at a later date.)
Thanks for visiting;
enjoy your day!
Love,
Bhakti

Has anyone noticed that the new Google-Beta Blogger kinda re-edits your spacing without warning? Uh...I spent a good deal of time making sure that the lines in this post were spaced very pleasing to the eye (once a photographer always a-- composition freak!--photographer.)
Have you noticed this, too? or am I the lonely only one?
Oh! I only wish I could be half as gorgeous as her when I'm that age!!! She's stunning!
I LOVE her in everything...
but, especially:
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
AND
Calendar Girls
:-)
(I want to do a 'Calendar Girls' type scenario...only with wedding cakes...unfortunately there's always WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE at the reception halls!!! :-S) Haha!
Re Beta: I can't even switch yet. They tell me I have too many posts, blogs & comments. I must wait until they have 'tech support for those types of blogs'.
Hrmph.
Hello again.
Favourite actress hhmmm…
Penelope Cruz.
She was robbed!
Volver was a lovely film.
Though it would be wrong for me to judge as I haven't seen “The Queen”.
I like Helen Mirren but I couldn' watch a biopic of Her Majesty; my inner Cromwell wouldn't let me.
Serendipitously I've just returned from the pictures. I saw It's Winter (AKA Zemestan); a beautiful film, though quite bleak (and it adopts deliberately masculine view point that some might find a little frustrating).
Bhakti I’ve been reading you’re blogs. I like your writing style it’s concise and compelling.
Best Wishes
Matthew
DEAR JIN--First of all, thank you kindly for leaving messages on my blog. I know that I have been lax in my posting, but I want you to know that your comments do brighten my day!
Oh my gosh--there is one scine in The Cook... where her husband is degrading her at the dining table and she (Mirren) gets this look on her face as if to say, "Keep yelling bloke...I don't care anymore!" and then she so slowly--with her eyes!--looks over to her lover sitting at a table across the room!!!! Oh my gosh! I have to say that I think that one moment is the best piece of acting that I have ever seen in my entire life!!
That movie, on the whole, I couldn't stomach at the time. But I watched it again about five years after it came out and just watched Helen's acting rather than focusing on the plot. The movie was disturbing, to be sure. As it was intended, to be even more sure! :)
Calendar Girls...that was a cute movie. One thing I love about Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep is that they can take on the really intricate acting parts (for example, Shakespeare, etc.) and then also play the seemingly 'easier', lighter parts. You know, the cute, funny movies. (I have no idea if they are equally as difficult to act in, I would think Shakespearian acting would be the most difficult! I'm not even sure if Meryl Streep has done Shakespearian work...hopefully you can catch my drift with that analogy anyway!)
Hey, I'll post soon. Keep in touch!!
MATTHEW--
Hi! I loved Penelope Cruz in the Spanish version of Vanilla Sky. I don't remember the title, but I saw it a year or two before Vanilla Sky. I didn't bother to see the American One, because I couldn't imagine Tom Cruise doing it justice. Besides, why flirt with perfection? The original, in my eyes, is a perfect film. No need to make an American version, just rent the one with subtitles.
That was just a rant!...
I have never heard of the film 'It's Winter'. When you say it's bleak yet beautiful, I'm picturing a very slow moving film with beautiful camera work. Is that what you mean? I enjoy movies like that. Perhaps I will see if Netflix has is to be placed on hold. That way, they'll remind me when it comes in so I don't forget to watch it. :)
Thank you so much for your comments regarding my blog. It makes me happy to know that you are enjoying the posts, and that you like my style of writing.
When I get my laptop, I will be posting a lot more.
I realized why I haven't bought the laptop yet: fear of success. I am working on that (working on exploring this fear of success).
Plus, I've had the flu all week. It's not surprising, my body has been through so much in the past year and a half, it's not surprising that it's having trouble fighting things off. It has actually made my neck feel better just lying in bed all day!
That's a definite silver lining!
BTW, Matthew, I can't seem to link to your blog. Do you have one? If you do, you might want to turn on the link button that gives people access to your profile. Just wondering. In any case, I am glad to have you here, and I enjoy reading your enlightening comments.
Thank you.
Marlee Matlin. She captivated me in Children of a Lesser God. It's a role I've never been able to forget.
Hi again,
Been so busy of late only just found time to gwt back to you...
I didn't know that Vailla Skies was a remake of Abre Los Ojos. I also didn't make it to Vanilla Skies; my sister endlessly replaying Top Gun when we were children has left me with unreasoning dislike for Tom Cruise.
Regarding "It's Winter"
"I'm picturing a very slow moving film with beautiful camera work. Is that what you mean?"
Yep that's pretty much what I meant (BTW it's an Iranian film).
I tend to like movies that rely largely on images rather than speach. Some films I liked (The Scent of Green Papaya, Young Adam, Atanarjuat).
Matthew
