Or perhaps the same side of different coins...
Hmmm....interesting quote.
Reminds me of:
(I don't remember exactly how it goes)
In order to experience happiness one must experience sadness.
Don't they say something about having to experience equal amounts of both?
I wish everyone could have 99 hours of happiness out of every 100.
Hope you are doing well!
So sorry that I've been AWOL!! Hubby got a new computer and lost my links. I had to go through my comment archives to find you again.
I pray that your latest surgery will ease the pain for you!
Matthew--Where is YOUR blog! I want the link! I love your comments. Very intelligent, thoughtful, humorous: all of the ingredients for a Bhakti hall of famer!
JIN: I do believe that you have to have opposites; that is what the Tao-ist Yin-Yang symbol is all about. Sometimes we don't realize how great we have it until everything falls apart. Of course, the converse is true, too.
As far as the 99 hours goes, I'm not quite sure if that ratio would make it possible to even find happiness unless you were a realized person who lives in an enlightened state all of the time.
However, if the ratio were more like 75 hours of happiness to 25 hours of yuck, I do believe that it would be possible to keep your center during the 25 hours of suffering by becoming the Witness.
Do you know of the Witness?
That is when you, as the statement would imply, witness everything that is going on around you--but you don't engage in the drama. For example, you might be at a store and the person in front of you starts yelling at the cashier. Well, you could get anxious, angry, or any other multitudes of emotions, and get involved in the situation, even if not verbally. OR you could just look at the situation--that is, really just LOOK with your eyes as if you are watching a movie, and try not to get caught up in the drama. What I'm talking about is a bit tricky to explain, but if you are interested in learning a bit more, I could give you a very simple exercise that will most certainly get you in touch with the Witness; that is, That which is truly looking through your eyes.
That sounds a bit spooky, when I explain it that way! It's not spooky, it's a kind of meditation.
TSHSM: Thank you so much for taking the time to find my link. I missed you, as well, and I am glad that you left a comment.
I truly AM gearing up to start blogging a lot more in the near future. I have many topics that I want to tackle, explore, etc.
So, keep in touch.
I hope this finds all of you well.
LOVE,
Bhakti
